'The 1959 Antarctic Treaty hides the midnight sun'
Flat-earth claim
The claim
"The 1959 Antarctic Treaty restricts access to Antarctica to keep people from seeing the 24-hour Sun."
The reality
The Antarctic Treaty (signed 1 Dec 1959, in force 23 Jun 1961) designates the continent as a scientific preserve, establishes freedom of scientific investigation, and bans military activity. It does not restrict access or tourism - it promotes open science. Decades of routine traffic prove it: research stations from many countries, tourist ships, and flights. The claim was tested directly at TFE in December 2024: eight people (flat and globe Earthers) flew from Chile to Union Glacier Camp - a privately operated camp - and livestreamed the 24-hour Sun.
The evidence
The treaty's own text (a scientific preserve, freedom of investigation, no military); decades of routine Antarctic traffic; TFE 2024 (eight people flew there, ~$35,000 per person, and the midnight Sun was observed and broadcast). A treaty that 'hides' the Sun would make it harder to get there - it does the opposite.
